Terms and Conditions
  1. The Right is granted for the burial of one person once the appropriate Plot Fee is paid.

  2. Embalming:   Bodies should not have been embalmed prior to burial.

  3. Coffins
    • At the time of burial the remains shall be in a suitable biodegradable container: softwoods, willow, bamboo and cardboard are all acceptable. These materials must all be from sustainable sources whether from UK or abroad.
    • Chipboard, hardwoods (e.g., oak, teak, elm etc), 'cremfilm', or plastic liners are not accepted. All liners must be biodegradable.
    • Suitable coffins and urns are available from Brocklands. Any coffins provided by the family, or the Funeral director must be approved in advance of purchase.

  4. Burial
    • Whenever practical, a minimum of 48 hours notice should be given to the Owner of the requirement to open a grave for each interment.
    • The Owner will carry out the digging of the grave and any associated work.
    • Family may assist in the digging or filling in of the grave with prior arrangement, for the same burial fee. Liability will not be accepted for any accidents during this work.
    • Prior to each burial taking place the Owner must be given the appropriate Certificate of Burial from the Registrar. It is illegal for any burial to take place without this certificate.
    • At the time of burial a fee (being the Burial Fee applicable at the time) shall be paid for the services rendered.
    • Family dogs are welcome to attend funerals.
    • All burials are intended to be last resting places and the Owner will only agree to requests for exhumation in exceptional circumstances.
    • No vases, ornaments, artificial flowers or any other non-natural structure shall be placed on or around the grave, and the Owner reserves the right to remove and dispose of any that are unsuitable.

  5. Trees and Wildflowers
    • At the next appropriate season, and where relevant, the Owner will plant one tree, shrub or wildflowers on the grave, at his own convenience and at no extra charge.
    • Families may, with prior arrangement, choose a day to plant the tree on the grave.
    • Any trees failing in the first year or so will be replaced free of charge. The Owner will use his reasonable endeavours to try and ensure the longevity of the tree, but cannot guarantee this.
    • All bulbs, plants or flowers must be provided through the Owner; this is to keep the plants native and appropriate. This most especially applies to bluebells. All inappropriate plants of any kind will be dug up and removed.

  6. Visiting:
    • Visitors are permitted during the normal opening hours of the burial ground (i.e. daylight hours).
    • Dogs are welcome to visit if kept on a lead, remain in vehicles, or are tied to the post provided. (Please remove any dog mess to keep the ground pleasant for other families.)
    • Vehicles are allowed on the access track and car park only.

  7. Deed of Grant Certificates
    • A certificate granting burial rights will be issued for each plot.
    • In the case of a Double Plot two certificates will be issued; the second certificate being retained by the family until such time as the second burial takes place.
    • Deed of Grant Certificates must be surrendered at the time of burial. In the event that such a Deed cannot be produced, the Owner reserves the right not to let the burial take place.
    • As a general rule plots are not offered for pre-purchase in advance of need; however this rule may be waived in certain circumstances, e.g. terminal illness.
    • Where a certificate has been pre-purchased, in the case of cancellation, 50% of the Plot Fee is non-refundable.
    • The second part of a Double Plot, once the first part has been used, may be cancelled, but in this case there will be no refund at all.

  8. Privacy Notice
    • Our Privacy Notice is always available on our website. A hard copy will be sent to you upon request.

  9. These Terms may be varied by the Owner from time to time. The Owner reserves the right to comply with the standards set out by any monitoring organisations such as the ANBG.
